28 Week Update

Ladies and Gentleman, we have officially hit the third trimester! Bring on those backaches and swollen feet, I'm ready!

28 week appointment this morning. Matthew came with to keep me company and then took me out to breakfast, which was nice.

The first thing we did was a 1 hr glucose tolerance screening, which I failed. To pass it, you need to get a score of 140 or lower and mine was 152. This means that I will need to go in next wednesday for a three-hour test. If I fail that, it means I have gestational diabetes and have to go on a special diet etc. However, 85% of women that fail the 1-hr go on to pass the 3-hr and are just fine. In any case, I definitely need to make some changes in my diet (ie. no more sweets) and less carbs.

Secondly, I got the Rhogam shot, which is a super painful shot that women with RH- blood (I am AB-) must get in case baby daddy has RH+ blood. I guess if the baby has positive blood and it mixes during birth, it can cause serious problems. However, Matt is RH- as well, so there wouldnt be any problems. Being the sweetheart that he is, he called around to his old clinics to try to obtain paper-proof that he is O-, but no one had it. In the end, wasn't a huge deal. I already had a bad attitude about it after hearing about having failed the glucose test, so I wasnt being very nice. (sorry nurses & Matt).

Next appointment (other than the 3-hr) is in two weeks. They will see me for another month or so every two weeks and then the appointments go down to one a week. Eeep! It's all coming so fast now! I can't wait :-)

Love,
Catherine
